Level 1 Award

Health and Safety in the Workplace (RQF)

The most valuable asset of any company is the employee. Accordingly, business management, no matter how large or small, has both moral and legal responsibilities to assure the health and safety of those employed by any company as well as non-employees.

The Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974 (HASWA) identifies the responsibilities of employers (as well as employees or contractors) of the duties required for maintaining compliance with this Act of Parliament. This is an introductory course intended to provide individuals with basic information contained within HASWA as well as elementary principles of occupational safety and health.

Intended Audience

The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace is a nationally recognised and regulated qualification designed to provide learners with a basic introduction to health and safety in the work setting. This course is particularly useful for businesses with low-levels of health and safety risks. Additionally, businesses having staff who have achieved this qualification may be eligible for insurance premium reductions.

This course is not intended to train individuals responsible for health and safety in work settings deemed to have moderate to high risk potential.

Course Overview

During this half day course, learners are taught the differences of various hazards and the associated degrees of risks related to such hazards commonly found within the workplace; workplace conditions which can adversely affect health and safety; and, basic requirements for workplace health and safety policies and procedures within the workplace.

Assessment Methods

One 15 Multiple Choice Question Paper (MCQ theory assessment) conducted at the end of the course, and continuous formative assessment throughout the course.

A failure to successfully complete this course seldom occurs, and every effort is made by each instructor to assure a successful understanding of the course material is achieved. However, if a student fails to successfully complete any module of the course, remediation is offered.
