Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)
The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation of 1981 requires all employers in the United Kingdom to provide adequate resources and ability to provide immediate first aid should any individual become ill or injured in the work setting. This regulation also mandates conducting risk and hazard assessments as well as providing adequate first aid training to address the types of hazards identified within the entire workplace.
Intended Audience
The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is a nationally recognised and regulated qualification designed to provide employers with staff members competent in more advanced first aid.
This course is also an ideal qualification for those interested in providing voluntary emergency first aid in the public sector. – Individuals intending to take this course should be mentally and emotionally equipped to provide all levels of first aid wherever and whenever necessary.
Course Overview
The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is conducted over a one-day course where students learn to successfully manage various incidences which require emergency first aid in or out of the workplace. The skills learned include (but are not limited to): hazardous incident assessment; managing unconscious casualties; identifying and managing suspected heart attacks; CPR/AED, diabetic emergencies; anaphylaxis; choking, and an array of trauma including spinal injuries, severe fractures, head trauma and managing catastrophic bleeding along with haemorrhagic dressings.
Assessment Methods
Student assessment in this course are both formative and summative. Students are assessed throughout the duration of the course in a manner which allows each student to identify their strengths and weaknesses in a friendly and encouraging manner. Additionally, there are four practical assessments and one theory assessment in the form of multiple-choice questions.
A failure to successfully complete the course seldom occurs, and every effort is made by each instructor to assure a successful understanding of the course material is achieved. However, if a student fails to successfully complete any module of the course, remediation is offered.
