Level 2 Award

Basic Life Support & Management of Anaphylaxis (RQF)

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation of 1981 requires all employers in the United Kingdom to provide adequate resources and ability to provide immediate first aid should any individual become ill or injured in the work setting. This regulation also mandates conducting risk and hazard assessments as well as providing adequate first aid training to address the types of hazards identified within the entire workplace.

Intended Audience

The Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Management of Anaphylaxis is a nationally recognised and regulated qualification designed to provide individuals with the skills necessary to effectively provide anaphylaxis intervention as well as Basic Life Support.

Not only is this course a compliment to any work setting, it is also an ideal qualification for those who have friends or loved ones whom have a known susceptibility to anaphylaxis – or for individuals interested in providing voluntary emergency interventions involving anaphylactic reactions and/or cardiac arrest in the public sector.

Course Overview

The Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis is conducted over a half-day period where students learn to effectively manage anaphylaxis and provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The skills learned include (but are not limited to): common anaphylactic triggers; signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis; proper use of an epinephrine injector (EpiPen); management of unconsciousness, and effective CPR. This course can be delivered as a “standalone” course (minimum of 3h. 45 min.) or as a “bolt on” qualification for other courses which share the same assessment criteria.

Assessment Methods

Student assessments in this course are formative with three practical assessments conducted during the course. This course, as with all of Survival’s courses, is conducted in a friendly manner with positive reinforcement.

If any student fails to successfully complete the course (a rare event) remediation is offered.
